Paul was born and raised in Indiana. He started singing before he can even remember and playing trumpet & guitar at the age of 10. He then started to pick up piano & keyboards in his early teens. Paul's been a full-time working musician since 1972, traveling extensively doing "road work" though the 70's & 80's. He's spent many years making a living performing on keyboards, guitar, bass, trumpet, and pretty much ANYTHING that makes sound. He traveled for a decade playing 35 different states, and has been been blessed to have graced the same stages as such musicians and performers as Britian's FOGHAT, JOURNEY'S Steve Smith and his Fusion Band, Jazz greats Ronnie Laws and Frank Gambale, The John Entwhistle Band (bassist for The WHO), Rick Nelson (just weeks before his tragic plane crash),the GREAT Chuck Berry, and Donnie and Marie Osmond. He's even performed on the stage of the famous Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Having moved to Phoenix, AZ, with his family in the mid 80's, he played with The GROOVE MERCHANTS there for several years (GREAT band!). Paul also worked as a recording engineer and has been a musician/vocalist for many of the Phoenix based studios. He has performed on extensive Radio/TV jingle work for such clients as Air France, Motorola, McDonald-Douglas, Circle K, Shasta RV, The Phoenix JC's Rodeo, and the Arizona Dept. of Tourism, just to name a few.
Paul relocated back to the Midwest in 1991 and has never regretted it. Having taken a decade sabatical from clubs, Paul was asked, by long-time friend Roby Robinson, to play a weekend at his, then new, restaurant on Simonton Lake. He did. Had a GREAT time. And decided it was time to start playing out again. Paul does solo, duet, and full band gigs, with up to eight pieces, including horn section.
He has been playing many venues in the Michiana for over a decade, including:
Ruth's Chris, Villa Macri Restorante', 523 TAP & GRILL, McCarthys on the River Walk, The Wood Fire, Sauktrail, Lucchese's, The Beanery, Ugly Mugs, Flippin' Cow, Fat Tomato, Pete's
@ Simonton Lake, The Winner's Circle, Michael's,
Simeri's, Bent Oak Restaurant, Knollwood CC, Christiana Creek CC, Elcona C.C. Harrison Landing, Swiss Valley Ski Resort, Ugly Mugs, The Beanery, Constant Spring, The Electric Brew, and even that iconic
Michiana showcase-place of music, ZIMMY'S.
His 6 piece R&B group, The REAL DEAL , often play clubs around the Michiana area as well as many corporate and private functions throughout the year, and specializes in performing a vast variety of musical genres from Louie Armstrong to Motown. He would love to talk to you about booking and performing at your next engagement/event.
Paul joinedThe MINOR
PROFITSin late summer of '08, playing keys & guitar. They had just finished their debut CD "BELOVED" (see The MINOR PROFITS Myspace page, or Reverbnation.com for a listen) and needed someone to help play all the parts recorded. After two gigs, they asked him to stay on as a member...and BING-BANG-BOOM!...things clicked.
Since then , they have released a second CD which is getting quite a bit of airplay on the college stations (http://www.reverbnation.com/theminorprofits for a free listen) They are a very unique group of musicians that
perform ALL original material...3 hours worth (there's not another band within 50+ miles that can make that claim). With players from England, Hawaii, and the good
ol' Midwest, three of the six players write, and they ALL contribute, in a big way, to the
fresh and eclectic genre' that they continually strive to make better. And all
are very imaginative in their performance and musical abilities. For a VERY
unique experience, we suggest you catch one of their shows. http://www.myspace.com/theminorprofits He is also a steady member of the 60's-70's South Bend band,ALTER EGOS, (which includes a couple well-known Michiana doctors). They play several corporate and benefit functions each year. Whether it's Solo, Duet, Full Band, Original Music, R&B Horn stuff, filling in with several area bands, or helping to lead worship at several area churches...ya gotta come and check it out!
Paul enjoys playing ANY style of music. AND..the only genre of music he really hasn't pursed yet is country/pop, so be watching for a possible "New Group" to be sprouting up soon. By the way...if your band needs a "fill in" on Guitar, Keyboards, or Bass, give him a call. For booking info and general questions, see CONTACT & BOOKINGpage. And if you email him, don't forget to include your email address on the form.
*Be sure to check the CALANDER page frequently for shows and updates for band dates and solo gigs.
Notes from Venues / Bookings:
"We have been using Paul, for over the last year or so, to perform at our restaurant. Our patrons truly enjoy coming in to listen to Paul play. He
always has an enthusiastic crowd and does a great job engaging and interacting with the crowds.
Paul has played around the Elkhart community for decades, and has developed a
large "Groupie" following that always appreciates a night out with "Small Paul",
as do we, at Lucchese's. We always look forward to him coming in to play for

Martha and I dined at the INDIGO Restaurant on CR 17 and to our pleasure there was a band called The Real Deal, whose lead is
Paul Decker. We listened to two hours of the best music we’ve heard in a long

“WOW !!...We had a blast at our dance night at the Escapees RV Club Fall Escapade in Goshen, IN, last month (400+ attended). It was one of our most successful dance parties by far. You guys had us up and moving from the very first number. We would highly recommend “ya’ll” (Texan) for any group that wants a spirited, musical, fun time.”

“We’ve had the privilege to host many musicians and bands at our cafe, but "Decker/Kilmer" have always been one of the most requested and well-attended concerts each and every time! All age groups enjoy their music, humor and interaction with the audience. Very accommodating to us as the business owners, also. We appreciate their sincere passion for sharing their gifts and talents for the enjoyment of others! “
